Characterization data summary

Battery characterization provides the experimental data required to represent the electrical behaviour of a battery using the Thevenin Battery Model. The two characterization tests described in this chapter provide complementary information about the battery.

The Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) test determines the equilibrium voltage of the battery at different States of Charge, while the Hybrid Pulse Power Characterization (HPPC) test captures the battery's dynamic voltage response under varying load conditions.

The information obtained from each test is summarized below.

These datasets provide all the information required to identify the parameters of the Thevenin Battery Model, including the Open Circuit Voltage curve and the resistive and capacitive elements that describe the battery's dynamic behaviour.

The characterization tests themselves do not directly produce the model parameters. Instead, the recorded measurements are processed using parameter identification techniques to determine the values of the model parameters.

The next chapter explains how the experimental data obtained from the OCV and HPPC tests are analysed to extract the parameters required by the Thevenin Battery Model.
