Why is Battery Characterization Required?

Battery behavior changes with operating conditions, State of Charge, and temperature. These changes must be represented by a battery model.

Battery characterization identifies the electrical parameters required to build this model from experimental test data.

The Battery Software uses HPPC and OCV characterization to determine the parameters of a second-order Thevenin equivalent circuit model.

Later chapters explain these characterization methods and the resulting battery model.
